New insights into heart scar tissue could improve treatment after heart attacks

A team of researchers from the IGTP has taken a step forward in understanding the complex structure of heart scars that form after a myocardial infarction. Using a porcine model, the group found an association between specific electrical patterns and structural characteristics of the scar, offering a new approach that may guide more targeted and effective treatments for arrhythmias. The results have been published in the journal Heart Rhythm.

The Germans Trias Research Institute and ICO Badalona describe genomic alterations that may help predict treatment response in an aggressive type of breast cancer

Researchers at IGTP, HUGTiP and ICO Badalona have identified genetic alterations, including frequent TP53 mutations, that could serve as biomarkers to guide treatment decisions in HER2-positive breast cancer.

The Ibero-American network RIGHT PLUS, coordinated from the Can Ruti Campus, launches LAMIS 2025, a key study on the health of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Latin America and the Caribbean

The second edition of the LAMIS survey is being coordinated from the Can Ruti Campus. This key international study explores the psycho-socio-sexual health of gay, bisexual and other MSM across 24 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, with active involvement of the CEEISCAT research group.

Fundación Mutua funds a Can Ruti project on the role of unknown viruses in head and neck tumours

Research teams from IGTP, ICO and IrsiCaixa have been granted funding from Fundación Mutua Madrileña to conduct the ERICA Project, which aims to investigate the role of viral infections in the development of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

Women more susceptible to certain subjective effects of alcohol during binge drinking episodes

A study led by IGTP and HUGTiP finds that women feel stronger effects from binge drinking, even at equal blood alcohol levels. The research also warns that mixing alcohol with energy drinks does not reduce impairment and may encourage risky behaviour.

Study highlights opportunities to strengthen early HIV diagnosis in primary care in Catalonia

The results of a study published in EuroSurveillance highlight biases and inequalities based on sex, age, origin and region, and point to the need for training, clear protocols and alert systems to improve early diagnosis. The study was led by researchers from CEEISCAT, IDIAPJGol and IGTP.

An international study validates the efficacy of a drug in adults with neurofibromatosis type 1

An international study, published in The Lancet, demonstrates for the first time that the drug selumetinib is effective in reducing tumours and associated pain in adults with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). IGTP and Hospital played a key role in the clinical trial, which marks a significant advance in the treatment options for this rare genetic disease.
