At the IGTP TODAY
The visit of the director of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) -a public body attached to the Ministry of Science and Innovation, responsible for the promotion, coordination and funding of health research- at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) was an opportunity to gain direct insight into the latest advances and research while addressing strategic issues.
In the first episode, "La tuberculosi: la pandèmia dels pobres" (Tuberculosis: the pandemic of the poor), researcher José Domínguez explains the basics of the disease and the current situation of research. This podcast is a way for the centre to reach a wide audience, thanks to a short and dynamic storytelling format.
The discovery, published in the journal Pathogens, paves the way for accelerating the design of efficient vaccines and treatments against the disease.
To celebrate the Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February the Can Ruti Working Group Women in Science (WiS) today held its 5th symposium focussed on Integrating Intersectionality and Gender Perspective in Research, hosted by the IGTP.
The care and treatment provided to people who suffer an ischemic stroke can improve thanks to a technology developed in Catalonia. This is the purpose of Time is Brain (TiB), a start-up that arose from a scientific project carried out by the Hospital and the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), which has just received an investment by the European Union of almost 6 million euros in order for the hospitals to count on a pioneering device to manage acute ischaemic stroke.
Antoni Bayés, Pere Joan Cardona, Magí Farré, Miquel Àngel Gassull, Manel Puig-Domingo, Manuel Perucho and Jordi Barretina, all past and present members of IGTP staff together with nearly twenty other affiliated researchers and medical staff from Can Ruti Campus institutions -many affiliated to the IGTP- are included in Elsevier's Scopus list, composed of the 200,000 most renowned researchers worldwide.
Yesterday morning, a group of second year of scientific baccalaureate students of the Col·legi Cultural de Badalona visited the IGTP. They had the opportunity to see the facilities and learn about basic research pratices.
The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Pathobiology Group Annual Meeting took place on October 24 and 25, organized jointly by the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP). Over the two-day event, a series of talks on therapies to fight cancer were held both at the IGTP facilities and online.
The workshop "Advances in Translational Research through EATRIS", organized by the IGTP took place this week and provided a space for researchers to discuss the role of EATRIS as a European infrastructure of translational research.
