The III CARE Annual Meeting, held on 5 December at BCIN, brought together the cancer research community of the Can Ruti Campus for a day focused on scientific dialogue, interdisciplinarity and future strategy.
The Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital and Research Institute welcomed patients and families from several European countries as part of the NF Academy 2025, an event organised by Neurofibromatosis Patients United together with the ACNEFI to train and empower young people living with NF1, NF2-SWN and SWN.
An international study, published in The Lancet, demonstrates for the first time that the drug selumetinib is effective in reducing tumours and associated pain in adults with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). IGTP and Hospital played a key role in the clinical trial, which marks a significant advance in the treatment options for this rare genetic disease.
A study led by the Clinical Genomics Unit (UGC) has established a new cell model to advance research into NF2-related schwannomatosis (SWN-NF2), a rare genetic disease. The work, published in the journal Genes & Disease, describes the generation and characterisation of cell spheroids derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)-a type of stem cell capable of transforming into almost any cell type-that reproduce the alterations observed in tumours associated with the disease.
This March, IGTP resumed the round of visits from La Marató de TV3 donors to its laboratories, as part of the Visita la recerca program, offering a closer look at the progress of funded research projects.
Fundación "la Caixa" is offering 30 fellowships to researchers of all nationalities who wish to pursue official PhD studies in STEM disciplines at research centres and centres of excellence in Spain and Portugal. IGTP is open to hosting students under this program, who will have the opportunity to join one of IGTP's research groups and carry out their PhD research in their area of interest.
IGTP has held an event to share resources, perspectives, and advancements as a centre linked to EATRIS, with a special focus on patient involvement in biomedical research.
The second CARE Workshop, held on 9-10 October, brought together more than 70 researchers from across the cancer research community at the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus for two days of scientific exchange. The event served as a platform for sharing the current cancer research being developed on the Campus and fostering stronger connections among researchers.
On Thursday 29 February, the Germans Trias Hospital hosted the 'International Rare Disease Day Symposium'. Health professionals and researchers from the Hospital and IGTP discussed their work in advancing the field of rare diseases. Representatives from patient associations of these diseases also participated.
