A study led by researchers from the Resistance, Chemotherapy and Predictive Biomarkers group at the IGTP, published in Clinical and Translational Medicine, provides new evidence on how to improve the efficacy of one of the most widely used chemotherapy combinations in clinical practice for the treatment of colorectal cancer: 5-fluorouracil and irinotecan (FUIRI).
The III CARE Annual Meeting, held on 5 December at BCIN, brought together the cancer research community of the Can Ruti Campus for a day focused on scientific dialogue, interdisciplinarity and future strategy.
The Mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, has paid an official visit to the Institut Català d'Oncologia (ICO) in Badalona, located within the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol building. The visit was attended by the director of the IGTP, Jordi Barretina.
IGTP has received grants for six research projects in two calls from the Spanish Research Agency, under the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2021-2023.
The second CARE Workshop, held on 9-10 October, brought together more than 70 researchers from across the cancer research community at the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus for two days of scientific exchange. The event served as a platform for sharing the current cancer research being developed on the Campus and fostering stronger connections among researchers.
A study led by researchers from the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) and Institut Català d’Oncologia (ICO) analysed peripheral blood samples from patients with metastatic colorectal cancer and identified a potential biomarker indicating the effectiveness of oxaliplatin-based treatment. The research has been published in the journal Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy.
The network IMMUNO-model has brought together researchers and innovators from all over the world to foster research in immuno-oncology through the advancement in the development and implementation of pre-clinical models. This initiative is funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) programme.
A collaborative study led by researchers from IGTP has revealed the promising possibilities of using an agarose spot migration assay to examine the ability of extracellular vesicles to attract other cells in a controlled environment. The study has been recently published in the journal BMC Biology.
The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Pathobiology Group Annual Meeting took place on October 24 and 25, organized jointly by the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP). Over the two-day event, a series of talks on therapies to fight cancer were held both at the IGTP facilities and online.
