Xavier Garcia Albiol visits the Institut Català d'Oncologia in Badalona

The Mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, has paid an official visit to the Institut Català d’Oncologia (ICO) in Badalona, located within the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol building. He was accompanied by Eva Guillén, Fifth Deputy Mayor for Finance, Human Resources, and Social Services; Candela Calle, Manager of the Northern Metropolitan Region, and Judith Vinyals, Director of the Northern Barcelona and Maresme Healthcare Sector.
Upon arrival, Garcia Albiol was welcomed by Joan Brunet, General Director of ICO; Javier Grau, Clinical Director of the ICO Badalona Network; Raquel Azor, Director of Nursing; Josep Maria Mòdol, Manager of Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, and Jordi Barretina, Director of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP).
The visit began with a meeting with representatives from the ICO Badalona territorial management and various collaborating institutions at Campus Can Ruti. Attendees included Oriol Estrada, Director of Care Strategy at Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol; Jordi Barretina, Director of IGTP, as well as the heads of ICO services in Badalona.
During the meeting, Joan Brunet presented key figures on the Catalan Institute of Oncology's activity at Campus Can Ruti, highlighting its role as a reference centre for cancer care and research. He also emphasised that the collaborative working model among all campus institutions aligns with the European strategy for tackling the disease. Additionally, other current needs of the campus were discussed.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the new ICO Badalona Outpatient Clinics, a 1,355 m² facility spread over two floors, comprising 26 consultation rooms, inaugurated in 2023. These facilities currently house services in Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Palliative Care, Nutrition, Psycho-oncology, Social Work, and Genetic Counselling.
