Scientists from Germans Trias publish data on the negative effects of vaping on the immune response to tuberculosis infections

Scientists from the Innovation in Respiratory Infections and Tuberculosis Diagnosis Group at the IGTP and the Microbiology Service at the Germans Trias Hospital have published a paper in PLOS One on negative effects of vapour from e-cigarettes on the immune response against tuberculosis (TB). The results describe the effect of the vapour specifically on TB infection and they support the need for policies to reduce exposure to both smoke and e-vapour as part of strategies to control TB.

The IGTP shares its research projects for European Researchers’ Night

For the first time the IGTP has participated in the European Researchers' Night, part of the European Commission's Horizon 2020 Programme, which aims bring scientists and society together. Five researchers from the institute have participated in science popularization events.

‘Russian doll’ nanoparticles, a new therapeutic approach for tuberculosis

In an in vitro study researchers have shown how the nanoparticles are more effective than antibiotics alone.  In the future, the nanoparticles will be administered orally as a non-invasive treatment that is much more acceptable to patients.

A project on diagnostics and clinical management of tuberculosis, led by the IGTP, receives Marie Skłodowska Curie Funding

The project, called "Innovation in Tuberculosis - INNOVA4TB", is promoted and coordinated by the research group Innovation in Respiratory Infections and Tuberculosis Diagnosis, led by Dr Jose Domínguez and Dr Cristina Prat.  The proposal has received more than a million euros in funding from the 2018 call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) actions

New alliance with Mind the Byte to create a computational model of immune responses

The Innovation in Respiratory Infections and Tuberculosis Diagnosis Group at the IGTP is partnering with Mind the Byte to work on the characterization and binding analysis of an immunostimulant known to trigger T-cell activation, which is crucial for the initiation and regulation of the immune response.

A project to improve diagnostics for tuberculosis participates in an MIT mentoring programme

The IGTP research group for Innovation in respiratory infections and tuberculosis diagnosis has taken part in the 2017 edition of IDEA² Global, a mentoring programme of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to encourage innovative ideas in health and help to convert them into transferable projects from the point of view both of applications in health and of business.
