  • The document compiles IGTP's activity during 2024 and reflects its growth and consolidation
  • The report is available in its extended format as well as in two shorter versions: an interactive web format and an executive summary, as part of a continuous improvement strategy
  • It highlights the successful completion of evaluation and accreditation processes by CERCA and Instituto de Salud Carlos III

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) has published its 2024 Annual Report, a comprehensive compilation of indicators and milestones that provides an overview of the institution's activity over the past year. The report reflects the collective commitment of IGTP and its professionals to excellence in biomedical research, with the aim of generating knowledge to improve people's health.

The year was marked by two institutional milestones that consolidate IGTP as a centre of reference in Catalonia and Spain: the successful completion of the CERCA evaluation and the renewal of accreditation as an Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria (IIS) by Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII). In the words of Dr Julia García-Prado, scientific director of IGTP, these two achievements "recognise the quality, coherence and impact of our research activity. This success is the result of the rigorous work of our teams and our strategic commitment to health-oriented, results-driven research within the framework of the IIS alliance".

The report also highlights other significant milestones of the year, such as the fifth anniversary of the Comparative Medicine and Bioimage Centre of Catalonia (CMCiB), a strategic project of IGTP, celebrated with a scientific symposium that featured success stories developed at the centre and looked ahead to the future of personalised medicine, bioimaging and robotic surgery. Another highlighted event was the Innomed Awards, marking the conclusion of the first edition of the program's project incubator, launched at the beginning of the year and continuing to foster a culture of innovation at the Can Ruti Campus and its surroundings. In the same area, it is also worth noting the creation of two new spin-offs, Debios Diagnostics and HealthTech Innovation, and IGTP's joining of the Catalonia Advanced Therapies Network, reflecting the institute's commitment to translating scientific knowledge into concrete solutions for the challenges facing the healthcare system.

At a scientific level, 2024 was a year of intense activity and tangible impact, with prominent projects across the Institute's research areas, both nationally and internationally, recognition of the work of its researchers, and more than one hundred events that reinforce IGTP's transversal and cooperative character, such as the annual Retreat.

In addition to these achievements, the report also outlines the institute's strategy and structure and introduces, as a novelty, a dedicated section on corporate social responsibility. It also includes the indicators featured in recent years, with data on research and innovation, scientific platforms, funding, as well as communication and outreach activities, among others. Some key figures from 2024 include 1,089 scientific publications (355 of them in first-decile journals), 317 national and 54 international active projects, 613 ongoing clinical trials and 40 active patent families.

Dr Jordi Barretina, director of IGTP, concludes: "We will continue working to ensure IGTP remains an active driver in the development of innovative health solutions, with a vision that integrates research, knowledge transfer, talent and impact".
