Professionals from the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and Research Institute take part in HEALTHIO
The second edition of HEALTHIO, a trade fair for health and innovation at the Fira de Barcelona, was held on 16-18 October. It brought together members of the public, health professionals and innovative small companies in an open space designed to promote dialogue between all the players in the healthcare ecosystem and promote evolution of the sector.
Around 30 professionals from the Hospital and the IGTP took an active part in the trade fair, presenting various different projects at the hospital stand or as speakers in the forum areas dedicated to talks. A total of three IGTP projects were included in the healthcare routes and visitors could find out more about them visiting the stand. These included the device Rutilight®, a product to improve illumination in the intra-operative field of view, designed for surgeons by surgeons at the Germans Trias Hospital. Also the CMCiB was presented as a training centre and the GCAT Project as an example of how Big Data allows us to study the genetic and environmental factors that cause chronic disease in the general population. In the talks Dr Marta Vives-Pi presented an approach to treat diabetes type 1 based on modulating the immune system and Dr Antoni Matilla-Dueñas shared his team's latest advances in gene therapy for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as ataxia, a rare disease that has been being researched for over 10 years.
The projects presented by the hospital, included the ProPCC, a project promoted by the Territorial Management of Chronic Diseases; a telemedicine project from the Hospitalization at Home Unit; LactAPP, a collaboration between the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Services and the protocol for hyperglycaemia. Dr Cremades, Dr Estrada and Dr Julián were also in attendance.
The nearly 4,500 visitors to HEALTHIO were able to learn about these projects and others on offer at the 115 stands and through the 25 health routes and guided visits.
