Researchers from IGTP participated today in the fourth edition of Ciència al carrer: Fira d'ESO amb mirada STEAM, an educational initiative to engage students with science through dynamic and interactive activities.
For the fourth consecutive year, researchers from IGTP are taking part in the #científiques initiative, bringing science closer to schools and creating female role models in the framework of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February).
Nearly two hundred baccalaureate and vocational training students have taken part in a new edition of the activity "Open House: get to know the Can Ruti Campus up close", once again consolidating the campus's commitment to scientific outreach and to fostering vocations among young people.

The Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria IGTP has secured a total of €6,518,867 for various research projects and researcher contracts within the Acción Estratégica en Salud 2024 calls.
IGTP has been awarded two grants in the proves de validació (validation testing) call for the 2024-2026 period. One focused on the diagnosis of dementia with Lewy bodies and the other on the treatment of a stroke.
The 2024 call for Knowledge Industry grants by AGAUR has awarded €528,000 to seven projects from IGTP. The grants will enhance the valorisation and transfer of these innovative projects.
Fundación "la Caixa" is offering 30 fellowships to researchers of all nationalities who wish to pursue official PhD studies in STEM disciplines at research centres and centres of excellence in Spain and Portugal. IGTP is open to hosting students under this program, who will have the opportunity to join one of IGTP's research groups and carry out their PhD research in their area of interest.
In a new study published in the Journal of Molecular Science, the Genomics and Transcriptomics of Synucleinopathies Group, led by Dr Katrin Beyer, have got one step nearer to finding a reliable biomarker to differentiate between Lewy body dementia and Parkinson disease in the early stages, when symptoms are very similar. Correct diagnosis is extremely difficult, but essential for these patients as the wrong treatment can have very serious effects.
Three research groups at the IGTP have received three of the 21 grants in the 2019 call for CaixaImpulse, awarded by the "la Caixa" Foundation. The projects receiving the awards are led by Dr Katrin Beyer, Dr Francesc Borràs and Dr Alicia Martínez-Piñeiro and focus on improving the diagnostics for with Lewy body dementia; new non-invasive methods for monitoring renal dysfunction and new predictive markers for acute ischemic stroke respectively.
