Dr Joan Puñet Ortiz, head of the IGTP and IJC Cytometry Unit, holds a degree in Biochemistry (UAB), a MSCs in Advanced Immunology (UB-UAB) and a PhD in Biomedicine (UB).

In 2015, he started his research on immune-monitorization within the Immunology Department at HUGTiP, under supervision of the head of the department Dr Eva M Martínez Cáceres. Then, he started his PhD on murine autoimmunity models for biologic drugs therapeutic exploration at Dr Pablo Engel laboratory located at FRCB-IDIBAPS campus. During his thesis, he actively participated in the HCDM and gained very valuable and deep insights into the flow cytometry field from experts like Dr Engel, Dr. Menno C van Zelm and Dr Tomas Kalina. Once he defended his PhD in 2021, Dr. Puñet started a new position as head of the Flow Cytometry Facility at VHIR, where he implemented the spectral flow cytometry and started to organize annual intensive training courses for the Vall d'Hebrón Campus. In 2024, Dr Puñet left the position at VHIR to begin at IGTP as Head of the Cytometry Unit. In 2025 he extended his duties becoming head of the IJC Cytometry Unit, forming the first on its kind inter-institute, research and clinical Cytometry Unit. This hybrid unit takes advantage on sharing long-standing expertise and resource optimization of the IIS-Campus Can Ruti and facilitates the translation of discoveries and new methods into the clinical field. Dr. Puñet is member of the SEI and founder member of the CitoCat.
