The Internal Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) concluded 2024 with increased activity and several updates to its composition and functioning. This key advisory body in the institute's scientific planning held ten meetings throughout the year, strengthening its involvement in institutional initiatives.

The ISAB is one of IGTP's governance bodies, with the mission of advising on scientific and strategic matters to support continuous improvement in research and institutional management. It is chaired by IGTP's Scientific Director, Julia García Prado, and brings together representatives from various research and management areas affiliated with the institutions that make up the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria (IIS). This diversity enables the Board to address IGTP's challenges from a broad and integrated perspective.

New members and increased visibility

In 2024, the Board welcomed four new members and appointed Dr Eva Martínez Balibrea as its new secretary, replacing Dr Eduard Serra. For the first time, a representative of predoctoral researchers, Laura Torres, also joined the Board. One additional meeting was held compared to the previous year, with sessions conducted in hybrid format-mainly at IGTP, and one at the Institut Guttmann.

One of the ISAB's key priorities in 2024 was to increase its visibility across the campus, in line with requirements set by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII). As part of this effort, short ISAB updates were included in the institutional newsletter, and a dedicated section was created on IGTP's internal website.

Main actions and priorities for 2025

Throughout the year, the ISAB closely monitored the implementation of IGTP's Strategic Plan, one of its central objectives, and took an active role in several institutional initiatives. These included participation in evaluation panels, involvement in organising the IGTP Retreat 2024, and supporting the ISCIII audit process, which concluded with IGTP's successful reaccreditation as an Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria (IIS) - Health Research Institute.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Board will continue working on initiatives such as defining a clinical research career pathway and monitoring research career progression within the institute. It will also continue to oversee the Strategic Plan, placing special emphasis on strengthening collaboration with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. With renewed commitment, the ISAB remains a vital forum for discussion, strategic planning and the ongoing enhancement of research governance and impact.
