Cancer research takes centre stage in a new episode of the podcast 'Un bri de ciència'

- Campus Can Ruti, Institutional, Outreach, Success Stories

To mark World Cancer Day, the podcast of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) dedicates its eighth episode to cancer research, with a special focus on the CARE program, an initiative that brings together healthcare professionals from the Can Ruti Campus to share knowledge and tools.

In this episode of 'Un bri de ciència', Mireia Margelí, oncologist and researcher at ICO and IGTP's Badalona Applied Research Group in Oncology (B·ARGO), and Miguel Ángel Peinado, leader of the Cancer Mechanisms and Pathways group at IGTP -both directors of the Translational Program in Cancer Research (CARE)- discuss the major challenges in cancer research and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach.

The episode begins by exploring key concepts in cancer, such as its vast biological diversity and genetic basis, and how these factors influence diagnosis and disease monitoring. It then delves into the impact of current oncology strategies, including precision medicine, preclinical models, immunotherapies, and liquid biopsy, which are transforming how cancer is tackled.

Through an insightful conversation with the two experts, the episode highlights the crucial role of collaboration between researchers from different fields and how basic and clinical research must go hand in hand to improve cancer treatment outcomes.

With this new episode, IGTP once again brings biomedical research from the Can Ruti Campus to a wider audience, helping to raise awareness of the challenges and advances in healthcare.

You can listen to the episode on Spotify, iVoox, and Apple Podcasts.
