Barcelona hosted a new edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) last week, one of the main international events dedicated to technology and innovation. In this context, the 4YFN (Four Years From Now) event, focused on the entrepreneurial ecosystem and start-ups, brought together emerging initiatives and projects from different sectors, health among them.

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) was widely represented at the event, with members of the executive team, research support professionals, researchers, innovation experts and spin-offs associated with the centre. Its presence was reflected in exhibition spaces and sessions focused on health innovation, where projects aimed at translating biomedical research into applications with impact on society were showcased.

The spin-offs from IGTP played a prominent role at the event. DEBIOS Dx, HealthTech Innovations, Time is Brain, NIMBLE Diagnostics and Ahead Therapeutics had their own stands where they presented their innovative products and services. The latter two did so within the space of Institut Català de la Salut, Fundació TIC Salut Social and Biocat, where Oriol Iborra and Martí Dalmases presented their projects as part of the session "HealthTransfer, research becomes spin-offs". Iborra also took part as a speaker in the round table "Efficient health: technology at the service of time and the patient", held in the Cuatrecasas space. In addition, HealthTech Innovations was selected among the five most promising spin-offs in the final of the 4YFN University and Spin-off Track, where Manel Cremades presented the Medvision Pro technology.

Several professionals linked to IGTP and to the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital also participated in activities during the congress. Francisco Javier Juega, nephrologist and researcher in the group Research in Kidney Affecting Diseases Group (REMAR), presented on the ACCIÓ and Barcelona & Madrid Health Hub stage a collaboration between the Hospital and Tandem Health to implement an AI-based automatic scribe system for hospital outpatient consultations. Likewise, the Nursing Research Care Group (NURECARE) presented preliminary results of its collaboration with VDM Health in the project "IoMT Platform for the Monitoring of Complex Wounds Using Mobile Phones and Generative AI".

Other contributions included those by Oriol Estrada, director of Healthcare Strategy and Innovation at Germans Trias Hospital and leader of the Innovation, Health Economics and Digital Transformation Research Group (INEDIT), who moderated two round tables within the program "Changing Health Together: Driving Value through Digitalization of the Health System", organised by Boehringer Ingelheim; Eva Martínez-Cáceres, head of the Immunology Department and leader of the Immunopathology research group, who took part in a workshop dedicated to systemic detection for the early diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in the era of digital health; and Albert Teis, cardiologist and researcher in the Heart Failure and Cardiac Regeneration (ICREC) research group, who participated in the session "Detecting Signals. Transforming Decisions in the Clinical Setting - Artificial Intelligence and Amyloidosis", organised by AstraZeneca.

The participation of IGTP in this new edition of the MWC and 4YFN reinforces its presence within the health innovation ecosystem, connecting biomedical research with companies, investors and institutions to promote the development of new technologies with potential clinical and social impact.
