About thirty healthcare and research professionals from institutions belonging to the Can Ruti Campus, among the world’s most renowned scientists

Antoni Bayés, Pere Joan Cardona, Magí Farré, Miquel Àngel Gassull, Manel Puig-Domingo, Manuel Perucho and Jordi Barretina, all past and present members of IGTP staff together with nearly twenty other affiliated researchers and medical staff from Can Ruti Campus institutions -many affiliated to the IGTP-, are included in Elsevier's Scopus list, composed of the 200,000 most renowned researchers worldwide.

The Can Ruti Campus and the healthcare and research professionals of the institutions that belong to it continue demonstrating to be a relevant global node regarding scientific production and advances. A new sign of this is the fact that nearly thirty renowned professionals -from the  Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) and the Hospital Germans Trias, the Fight Infections Foundation, the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute and the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute- have been included in a global list of researchers with a high impact thanks to their publications and citations.  

Stanford University researchers, in collaboration with Elsevier-Scopus, have been publishing an annual study since 2019 on the most cited authors in the world based on their publications in the Scopus database. The list includes 200,000 authors -representing 2% of the world's scientists-, who are acknowledged based on two classifications: their whole scientific career and their impact on the last year. 

With regards to their whole scientific career, the list includes the following names:  Bonaventura Clotet, President of the Fight Infections Foundation and Director of  IrsiCaixa; Antoni Bayés, Clinical Director of the iCor (The Germans Trias Heart Institute) and Principal Investigator of the Heart Failure and Cardiac Regeneration (ICREC) research group of the IGTP; Victoria Delgado, Head of the Cardiovascular Imaging Section at Germans Trias; Manel Monreal, former Clinical Head of the Internal Medicine Service of the Hospital; Miquel Àngel Gassull, former Director of the IGTP and expert in intestinal inflammatory disease; Miguel Ángel Martínez, Principal Investigator of IrsiCaixa; Eduard Cabré, former Section Head of Gastroenterology of the Digestive Medicine Service of the Germans Trias Hospital; Pere Joan Cardona, Head of Service of the Microbiology Service of the Hospital and Principal Investigator of the Clinical and Experimental Microbiology research group of the IGTP; Magí Farré, Head of Service of Clinical Pharmacology Service and of the Clinical Trials Unit (UPIC) of the IGTP; Carlos Ferrándiz, former Head of Dermatology Service; Jaume Canet, former Head of Anaesthesia and Resuscitation Service; Antoni Dávalos, Clinical Director of Neurosciences of the Hospital and Principal Investigator of the Brain Vascular Pathology of the IGTP; Jordi Barretina, current Director of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP); Manel Esteller, Director of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation; Esteban Ballestar, Group Leader, Epigenetics and immune malignancies of the IJC; Montse Sánchez-Céspedes, Group Leader, Cancer Genetics of the IJC; Fumiichiro Yamamoto, Group Leader, Immunohematology and glycobiology of the IJC; Ciril Rozman, scientific founder of the IJC; Rafael Rosell, former Head of Medical Oncology Service of the Institut Català d'Oncologia (ICO) Badalona; Josep Maria Ribera, former Head of the Clinical Haematology Service at Institut català d'Oncologia (ICO) Badalona and researcher at the IJC; and Manuel Perucho, former director of the programme for predictive and personalized medicine at the IGTP.

Concerning their work during the year 2021, there are some repeated names in the list -Clotet, Bayés, Martínez, Cardona, Farré, Monreal, Dávalos, Esteller, Ballestar, Sánchez-Céspedes, Rozman, Ribera, Rosell and Canet- but also incorporates new ones. They are Manel Puig-Domingo, Head of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Hospital and former director of the IGTP; Josep Lupón, Head of Cardiology Service of the Hospital; José Manuel Carrascosa, Head of the Dermatology Service of the Hospital; Javier Martínez-Picado, principal investigator of the Retrovirology and Clinical Studies group of IrsiCaixa; María Berdasco, group leader, Epigenetic Therapies at the IJC; and Alejandro Vaquero, group leader, Chromatin Biology Laboratory at the IJC.
