Joan Ruiz Manzano
The Respiratory Diseases Research Group promotes clinical research to improve the diagnostic and management of respiratory diseases which are one of the world's leading causes of morbimortality. The Group is led by Joan Ruiz Manzano, and is integrated with the Department of Respiratory Diseases at Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol.
Líneas de investigación
Lung Cancer / Pleural Diseases
The aim of this research line is to assess the usefulness of several interventional techniques in the diagnosis of patients with suspected lung cancer, in order to achieve an earlier diagnosis with less invasive procedures.
Airway Diseases
The Severe Asthma Unit is involved in several clinical trials and other multicenter research projects concerning the diagnosis and treatment of patients with severe asthma.
Air Pollution
Air pollution has been associated with several diseases. The aim of this research line is to describe the association between air pollutants and exacerbation of respiratory diseases.
Chronic Respiratory Infections
Patients with respiratory conditions such as COPD or bronchiectasis are usually chronically infected with microorganisms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The objective of this research line is to achieve a better understanding of how this infection occurs and what are the best treatment options for these patients.
Sleep Apnea
The Sleep Medicine Unit has participated in several multicenter projects from the Spanish Sleep Medicine Network. Furthermore, it has also participated in the development of less invasive diagnostic techniques for sleep apnea.
