Looking for Postdoctoral Researchers Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships Call

Research Description:

An important and challenging problem in leukemia research is the limited ability for many laboratories to perform functional analyses of primary patient cells. In order to increase our understanding of the biology of human leukemic malignancies, we perform advanced experimentation using living-cell systems. Functional information extracted from single-cell analysis, provides crucial data to understand cell-to-cell heterogeneity. By enabling functional cytomics, we are able to evaluate the state of patients with leukemia as well as to examine the changes that occur in the accumulation of drugs into the cells over time. The Functional Cytomics Group is mainly focused in the basic mechanisms that regulate CD34+ and CD34- Side Population stem cells. Stem cells reside in most of tissues in a quiescent state, but rapidly become activated to both repair and regenerate the adjacent tissues. We are studying several genes involved in different aspects of stem cell activation, including some that encode for ABC multidrug resistance transporters, and others that regulate self-renewal and differentiation.

The current composition of the group includes 1 PI, and 3 PhD students.

Ongoing main research lines are 3:

  • Study of the mechanisms by which ABC transporters differentially activates low or high-level transduction cell signaling: Potential role to both protect the stem cell compartment!
  • The use of anticancer drug libraries to study the reversal of multidrug resistance in Side Population leukemic stem cells
  • Design of consensus protocols for safety, quality and standardization of CD34+ cells after-thawing

Main Responsibilities:

We are looking to receive the CVs of postdoctoral researchers willing to apply to the Marie Skolodowska Grants with us.

During the preparation of the proposals the supervisor, the fellow and the Research Support Unit might be invite other research staff to train the fellow in some research areas not covered  by the group.  The main responsibilities of the postdoc will be described in the MSCA proposal and will be jointly set up with the supervisor (Dr. Jordi Petriz).

All suitably qualified candidates irrespective of gender or nationality are welcome to apply as long as the following conditions have been fulfilled:

  • Applicants should be high motivated to work in the field of leukemia, stem cells, leukemic stem cells and functional flow cytometry.
  • Applicants should have good knowledge of English, both written and oral.
  • Experience in flow cytometry and hematological malignancies is needed, basic background preferred.
  • The researcher must be an Experienced Researcher: s/he must, at the deadline for the submission of proposals, be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience.
  • Full-Time Equivalent Research Experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him/her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged.
  • The researcher must move or have moved (transnational mobility) from any country to the MS or AC where the beneficiary is located.
  • The researcher must comply with the mobility rule: Only available to candidates who have not been resident in Spain  for more than 12 months in the past three years.

What we offer

  • Full equipped lab and access to all core facilities necessary for this project.
  • Young and dynamic environment.
  • Salary: see the Marie Curie rates for Spain. These rates are a gross EU contribution to the salary costs of the researcher. Consequently, the net salary results from deducting all compulsory (employer/employee) social security contributions as well as direct taxes (e.g. income tax) from the gross amounts (depending of the family situation of the fellow the grant might change the final salary).

How to apply:

Interested applicants should send their CV (containing the contact details of two referees) and a motivation letter: rrhh(ELIMINAR) with copy jpetriz(ELIMINAR)
