He did his PhD thesis in the group of Prof. Xavier Estivill, at Center for Genomic Regulation, focused on the characterization of the genetic basis of psychiatric diseases, and mainly in eating disorders.
In 2009, his career shifted to computational biology, under a Sara Borrell fellowship, joining the Computational Genomics group, headed by Dr. David Torrents at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). In BSC he established a research line centred on the development of new methods for the analysis of large scale genetic data using systems biology and supercomputing resources. 
During the BSC stage, he perform several post-doctoral stays at the Center for Systems Biology (University of Iceland; at the Intelligent Systems and Bioinformatics Laboratory, at the Wayne State University (Michigan, USA), and at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard (Cambridge MA, USA), under David Altshuler and Jose Florez.
In 2016, he is moving to the Institute of MIT and Harvard (Cambridge MA, USA), where he is contributing to the analysis of the world's largest next generation sequencing datasets for studying the genetic causes of type 2 diabetes.
