The Primary Healthcare Research Support Unit of Barcelonès Nord i Maresme was created in June 2006, with the mission to provide support and resources to researchers of the Primary Health Care in Barcelonès Nord and Maresme area, that allow them to develop or participate in research projects that enlarge the knowledge and evidences that improve efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency about the Primary Care interventions. The Primary Care Research Group consist of 5 principal researchers with projects financed by public grants and 33 collaborator investigators. There are 6 doctoral thesis in progress at the moment. The projects are grouped in three working lines defined in relation to chronic respiratory illness and low respiratory tract infection, asymptomatic peripheral arterial occlusive disease as a marker to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and the epidemiology of non alcoholic fatty liver disease. It’s as well participation in the recruitment of patients for clinical trials in III-IV phase.
The Primary Healthcare Research Support Unit takes responsibility in the territorial level of the Institut d’Investigació en Atenció Primària Jordi Gol (http://www.idiapjgol.org/) and it consist of a scientific coordinator, two technical research experts, two nurses and a secretary. There are 5 part-time researchers too, who have strengthening of the research grants with reduction of the clinical task.
