Research Description:

We are looking for a computational biologist at the predoctoral level to work on a project aiming to understand the biogenesis and evolution of a class of small non-coding RNAs called PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs). There will also be the possibility to work in parallel on the other main research line of the group which is aiming to understand the mechanisms of epigenetic inheritance.

Main Responsibilities:

The researcher will analyse small RNA sequencing data, will use comparative genomics and other sequence analysis tools to test a number of hypotheses about the biogenesis and evolution of piRNAs.

  • High motivation to work in basic research.
  • Good foundations in basic genetics, cell and molecular biology and statistics.
  • The ability to work alone and in collaboration with other researchers.
  • Good organization and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Linux, bioinformatics command line tools and genomics data and technologies.
  • Programming skills and experience: R and at least one programming/scripting language (perl/python/bash etc)
  • The ability to communicate in English.

What we offer:

  • A short-term work contract that could provide the starting point for a PhD project.
  • To work in a young and dynamic research group where you can make a big difference.
